Should You Start a Second YouTube Channel? — 5 Tips

By | September 2, 2019

so should you start a second channel on YouTube in this video we’ll be sharing three tips to answer that coming up hey what’s up guys Sean here Benji here and this is video influencers help you build your influence income and impact with online video and on this channel we have weekly tips and tricks videos as well as interviews with youtubers crushing it so if you’re new here consider subscribing alright so Consumer Hero asks if I have a main channel should I start a separate vlog channel so we’re going to answer the question about starting a secre separate vlog channel but also maybe you’re thinking about starting a second channel about anything for all of the influencer community we’ll share tips on that as well and the first question you really want to ask yourself when it comes to vlogging is why do you want to vlog so everyone knows Casey Neistat I myself am a vlogger and vlogging has become a big thing and it’s easy to get enticed into vlogging but you know there’s a lot of different reasons people vlog obviously you know to complement the current content you have to become a vlogger to make more money there’s so many different things so the first question you really want to ask is will starting a second channel hurt your main channel and what I mean is not hurt the branding maybe nobody will ever know about it but will it take your energy we all have limited time limited energy and so you know crushing it and breaking through on YouTube is a challenge and so you need to be putting out good quality content if you start a second channel you might dilute some of your creative energy now you just want to consider this maybe you still want to do it but will it take your bandwidth per say away from your main thing and really getting impact with your first channel tip number two will vlogging actually complement your current content so what I mean is this is going to be more for the people that don’t want to vlog every day maybe vlog once a week once a month can this content actually complement what you’re doing what I mean by this is say you or a gardening channel you’re talking about growing tomatoes you’re talking about making soil for your garden if you vlogge once a week about your garden more casual there wasn’t like a searchable title that you’re trying to create a video for that is going to complement your channel are you going to just vlog about your random life now there’s no right or wrong answer to this because a lot of vloggers actually got big and started vlogging about anything but you are talking about something specific first so really you just have to consider is it something that’s going to complement your your current content and if it’s not you might want to consider a second channel one hundred percent in an example of that is the friend of ours Amy we did an interview with her recently she just started a Friday vlog on her main channel so she thought about it differently she was like I don’t wanna start a whole new channel all this vlog once a week and experiment tip number three is now the right time to start a second channel and you know time is very precious and if you already have a day job and you’re already doing this on the side to start another channel is going to take up a lot of time so this is really important to consider before just starting a new channel one hundred percent and I think as creatives I know if you’re watching this you’re creative you probably get all kinds of ideas we always have ideas but sometimes we need to rein those in you know you can do anything but you can’t do everything and so look at like the big picture of your life maybe you really really want to look you know do vlogging but could you put it off a year or two to again get so much breakthrough start earning income off your main channel that actually opens up some more time maybe you’re able to work with a team and then you could start something later this is a marathon this isn’t a sprint and so there’s other project we want to do that we might not launch for one two three years we have to remember like we’ve got more time than we think as far as longevity but right now we don’t want we want to protect our focus so maybe we’re not going to say yes to everything or launch something new because right now isn’t the right time the last thing I want to mention about this topic is vlogging in general becoming a vlogger my wife and I are daily vloggers and the way we became a vlogger is Judy was creating videos around beauty for a years and then her viewers really want to see more behind-the-scenes stuff more about her life so we started the daily vlog same with so many creators Casey Niestat was the same way and most of the daily vloggers out there they have something going on so I ask yourself do you really want to become a vlogger because what is the best route to becoming a vlogger might be just focus on your current content and then start a second channel when you have an audience that’s established that sold on you that trust you that wants to know more about you and then you can migrate them over to the second channel and that’s the best way I’ve seen it done in the past few years absolutely and then one other thing about maybe just having a second channel just for like a creative outlet my main focus is my channel Think media TV where I do tech reviews my second focus is the project that we work on together video influencers this is like Benji and my side hustle and that’s our priorities but then I also have a channel that’s just my Sean Cannell channel and one of the nice things about having a second channel is I don’t feel like it steals my energy I don’t feel like it feels my creativity I don’t even really focus on it but every once in a while there’s something that’s totally off brand for video influencers totally off brands from think media TV and I just want some place to put it and so maybe you want to start a second channel just so you can have a creative outlet that’s not going to steal from your main brand but you could build it up over time and even that channel has grown a little by little and who knows maybe someday it’ll be something more question of the day do you have a second channel does it divide your attention and focus and what is your channel strategy for that second channel post it in the comments section below and remember that some of the best tips and advice come from you the video influencers community so definitely connect with everybody in the comments section and if you’re new to video influencers consider subscribing and sharing this video with anybody that would benefit from this content yes and we also have a free download maybe haven’t grabbed it yet a lot of people are getting great results with this because it’s 19 things to do every time you upload a new YouTube videos more views subscribers and impact so we’ll link that up in the youtube description as well on the youtube card and remember here on video influencers who are helping build your influence income and impact with online videos keep crushing it and we will talk soon

I am having a problem here. I am a person with multiple interest and goes in different ways in so many ways. LOL. I just started a gaming channel. been uploading videos about games. My other hobbies are on myths, legends, story telling and zodiacs. Youtube still has not made it possible for the channel owner to funnel or filter their subscribers with a specific playlist which the youtube watcher liked in the first place.
So should i be really opening a new channel/account? or is there somehow a possible way to bring all these things together?
I would love hear some good perspectives and ideas on it. 😀

Hi guys, here is my question….I haven't even started my channel yet, but soon will be travelling to Asia (full time) to vlog on the different Islands, attractions food etc etc….I am passionate about this, and will make this my main focus. This is more clean cut and family orientated. But at the same time…..guys love seeing hot girls, beach babes and nightlife….which would be more guy oriented and have an almost opposing viewership target. Thoughts please…..

Why doesn't Youtube allow a creator to have categories under his/her channel that the user can choose or not choose to subscribe to? My content centers around sharks, but there are a ton of directions I can go with that and some will appeal to some viewers and not others…I don't think this warrants a second channel necessarily, but the debate would be solved if users could subscribe to "sections" or sub channels. In fact, that's really what a channel should be…a variation of content from the main account.

Yes…I started a second channel that I thought was really hot! It just didn't take off. Looking back…I could have easily incorporated those videos into my main channel. It is true that a second channel needs just as much TLC as your main one…how much TLC do you have to spare? Thanks for the great advice, guys!

I do have several different subjects ("off brand"), so I'm considering a second channel. Questions: 1) Will that spread out my subscribers/watch time between the two channels? I have not reached monetization, so I'm wondering if YouTube tracks Over-All subs/watch hours, or each channel has to reach 1000 subscribers and hours of watch time respectively? 2) If I do decide to start another channel, can I switch existing videos over to the new channel while keeping existing views?

I've had my main channel for 2 years now, up at 15k subs and monetizing. What I was realizing with branding videos from you guys, is that I have two separate publics watching me: those interested in natural health as users or potential users of essential oils, and those actually working as consultants like me. In order not to distract the larger public (users) with business info not interesting to them (but crucial for me to also come out with), I am thinking of launching this second channel for the business side. I feel they complement each other well. And since I started with 3 videos per week and now I'm down to 1, I feel I have stamina (and certainly ideas!) enough for them both. 😀

Does the monetary aspect change if you have one or two channels? Does 'two channels' = 'twice the money' since you can have 1 subscriber subbed to both? Or is advertisement income solely dependent on the # of views you get?

So, I am considering a second youtube channel fro that topic cause I lerned from you to be specific. But to top it all off, I am considering a third channel on periscope, uploaded to youtube ( I already did it last week). No edition, just a friend with my Iphone pointing to me most of the time, and some times pointing to a monitor showing videos and photos.

So we kinda stopped making videos because I didn't know what to do. We are back and still the only views we get are these SING Toys Videos. Are they hurting our channel and new uploads? Thanks for this info! I am considering starting a second channel in order to do live streams. When I do livestreams on my main channel, my "core" subscribers love it, but it gets much less views than my other content, and causes me to lose subscribers, even though the content is related to my channel theme. Also, I have recently heard about a concept known as “consecutive hits" – the idea that a video has a greater chance of being pushed by YouTube’s algorithm if the previous upload was successful. With this in mind, is it counterproductive to do livestreams in which you know the video performance will be much lower? . I wouldn’t want a full-production video to suffer as a result of being released after a low-performing livestream. This is why I am considering a 2nd channel. Can you please share your thoughts on this? Thank you so much.

I just started my channel 4 months ago trying to encourage people to be creative everyday by showcasing my music and art. The difficulty is by profession and education I'm a musician, and only a self taught hobbyist with art; but my art content seems to do slightly better in YT analytics. Do you think there's a way to keep growing with split content both supporting my overarching topic (creativity for the average person) or would it be better to start a second channel: one devoted solely to music and the other for art? Thanks guys!

My current channel is for blacksmithing education, mostly tutorial type videos. But I have other interests and other things that life brings my way. So I am considering adding a channel as a catch all for the other stuff. Things like travel, creative experiments with video production, wood working and anything else that isn't actually blacksmithing related. But I do wonder if it would distract from the main channel.

    I have some questions

-I know 3 international languages and want to create 3 youtube channels for 3 different country audiences.

-What language should I select in adsense account?

-I do not live in my own country but I have bank accounts in both the countries, my current country where I am a resident, and my birth country where I am a citizen. as per Google policy I should only have 1 adsense account. in my case is it possible 2 accounts ex-1 for my resident country and one with my birth country?

How can I choose ad language for each country audience focused channel? because Country A has Language A, so channel A should accept only ads suitable for that country, same for all 2 other language channels.

I want adsense for youtube channels only. so no need to add any adsense code in this case like websites?

I would be very thankful if you help me.
