Search Engine Optimization (SEO) vs. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) | Clix

By | September 3, 2019

Hi, my name is Jared and I’m a Senior Account
Manager at Clix. I’ve noticed that a lot of people get the
terms SEO and SEM confused in normal conversations with our agency, and I want to take a moment
to clarify what those terms actually mean. SEM, or search engine marketing, is a very
broad, umbrella term used to describe marketing techniques that target users of search engines. SEO, or search engine optimization, is a term
used to describe tactics and techniques to get your website as visible as possible within
search engines. Search engine optimization techniques will
help your website garner more visibility in organic search engine results. Organic results are only one facet of a broader
search engine marketing plan. So, when thinking that search engine marketing
and SEO are synonymous, that’s not necessarily true. That’s not necessarily true at all. SEO, search engine optimization, are techniques
that lead to a larger, organic, search engine visibility. That organic search engine visibility is only
one piece of a broad search engine marketing strategy. If you have any questions, reach out to me:
