Ranking #1 With a New Website on Google in 2019 | Is it Even Possible?

By | August 11, 2019

– With all the changes
that Google is making and their algorithm keeps
getting harder and harder, is it even possible to
rank at the top anymore? Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today I’m answering the question of is it even possible to rank
at the top of Google in 2019? (gentle electronic music) Before we get started, make sure you subscribe to this channel. That way when we release
more videos like this, you’ll get notified. Question for you: do you have a website that gets little to no organic traffic? If you do, leave a comment below with yes. If you don’t, leave a
comment below with no. Now, let’s answer the question. If you have a brand-new website or even a website that’s old and you’re getting little
to no organic traffic, you can still generate a
lot of traffic from Google and rank organically. But the ways you need to
do it is totally different than what people are thinking. Now let me give you an example. There’s this company called Ahrefs. Ahrefs provides a SEO tool. They rank on page one of Google and at the top for backlink checker. But before they ranked at the top, they were doing everything. They were building links to that page, they were guiding internal links, and they couldn’t get to the top no matter what they tried. And can you guess why they
couldn’t get to the top? Well, it’s because everyone
who searches for that term is looking a free tool that
provides backlinks right away. Ahrefs is a paid tool. The moment they figured this out, they released a free version of their tool that provides information
on a hundred backlinks. Just a hundred, they limited it so people still upgrade
to their paid tool, and what ended up happening is within a few weeks to
even less than a month, they shot up to number one. Do you see what happened there? They figured out what the user
wanted and they provided it. It wasn’t just about building links, it wasn’t just about
optimizing title tags, putting in the right keywords. It’s providing the best
experience for our users, and that’s a mistake
that most people make. In 2019 and even beyond, SEO is not just about building links, building the right type of
content, internal linking. It’s about thinking about the
user and putting them first. If you don’t put the user first and you don’t give them what they want no matter how much SEO you do. Just like Ahrefs showed, you won’t rank. If you put the user first, and even if you don’t have
all the other factors, like your backlink count isn’t right, your internal links isn’t perfect, you can still rank high, because the way Google looks
at rankings these days is even if you do all the fundamentals right, but if people keep going to your site and they click the Back button right away, they’re bouncing off, they’re
going back to Google quick and the next result,
that’s telling Google that, hey, people don’t like your website. Google doesn’t care how much SEO stuff you’re doing at that point. They’re just like, wait, people
aren’t liking your website, so they’re not going to
continually rank you. So if you want to rank in 2919, don’t just think about SEO from a on-page or off-page perspective. Think about SEO from a user’s perspective. What do your ideal customers want? If you don’t know them, head over to tools like surveymonkey.com and you can survey users. You can survey your own users. Ask them things like, what else would you like
to see on this page? How can we delight you? How can we make our website better, our product, our service? By figuring out what people want and then giving it to them, you’re much more likely to
crank and climb in the rankings. It’s not just about doing the fundamentals that everyone is talking about. Now if you need help improving your SEO, check out my ad agency,

I have a question and I am trying to find the answer.
My question is, if I have 100+ articles on my website and I don't have any article ranked on 1st page but many are ranked on 2nd or within top 5 pages. So will i still get traffic to my website in any way? Or is it mandatory to rank every possible post on 1st page.

What if none of my articles ever rank on 1st page. Will I still get traffic to my website?

I had the same experience. But when I understood the context and intent, I got in the first position. 🙂 It is so right – you can not rank something with old school SEO strategies. You must think about what your visitors actually need! And that is the key to success in SEO. Neil, thank you for your content!

Hi Neil, love your content. I was told from a business branding perspective your home page should be clean, with short sentences that are straight to the point and easy to understand. But from an SEO perspective, i was told google likes content with a certain amount of wording and keywords. Both advise are contradicting each other, can you please help clear this up for me? I am confused. Thanks very much.

Thank you for all the helpful information!! I built my website 7 years ago and was on the front page for my website subject. Unfortunately, I then tried to move my website and things didn't transfer over, forcing me to build a new website. Now I can't even rank on the 10th page for my listing! I'm not sure what the issue is..but I will give your advice a try.

Such an excellent point. I often tell clients that Google's primary objective is to serve the user what it thinks they want, so we work to optimize from that perspective.

Disappointed that Google is so much about paid ads these days. They are slaying the Golden Goose for quick profits and they will pay the price when another search engine sneaks in like Duck Duck Go.

Possible for long time professional 'players' like you,for sure, ..but for beginners, kinda a miracle, i mean..i just searched on Google:how to make a website?..then i got around 19 billions results in 1 second, most people would click on the first 3 to 5 of the results seen on the first page, so, how would mine get on the first ranks around billions, well, that's for example.

figure out what your user wants and give it to them. user seo is rated higher by Google than page seo. user seo is quantified by how they interact with your content. Neil who is more smarter than you at this stuff?
