How to Rank Video on YouTube and Blow Up Your Channel | Does Youtube SEO Impact Your Google Rank?

By | September 1, 2019

hey everyone I’m Neil Patel and I’m here with Adam from viewership comm this is another episode of our QA Thursdays and today we’re gonna be going over a really popular ask question that someone add so what is a question Adam here it is this is from ruin M Marino Neil how YouTube impact SEO in the coming years here’s the thing about YouTube and you know this because your company specializes in YouTube marketing YouTube videos don’t rank that well or drive a ton of traffic from Google organic yes they’re their videos are ranking right because now Google is including everything within search from restaurants to places to go to YouTube videos and whatever it may be and blog posts I’m sure but here’s the thing that most people don’t know and you know this if you have a video on YouTube on a popular topic it can get a ton of search YouTube is one of the most popular search engines out there what people aren’t doing is optimizing for YouTube search so don’t try to create a video and worry about ranking on Google create a video and worry about ranking on YouTube for example I rank really high for the term SEO on YouTube thanks to your help as well but that video doesn’t rank on Google on page one for SEO now of course Google gets way more views but that video naturally gets like four or five hundred views a day without assuming anything just because it ranks on YouTube so think of YouTube as a separate search engine instead of Google and create video content to do really well on YouTube now that’s going to change I mean a drop but do you think in the future you know Facebook’s going mostly video yeah Google organic search is gonna turn more video no because if users wanted on Google tons and tons of videos they would have been already pushing up the videos there right right they’re looking at all data and patterns so for that reason I don’t see a big change in the search in which YouTube videos are gonna dominate yes it’s easy to get them rankings but that’s not what people looking for most of time right so if you want to rank really well on YouTube there’s a few things you can do one add transcripts because if you add a transcript then YouTube really knows what the videos about it’s not just about them crawling you’re kind of like oh can already detects up and put into the subtitles is like no you need to upload a transcript manually and by the way if we keep saying YouTube SEO YouTube SEO Google YouTube knows never talk about YouTube SEO and this is gonna get high on it YouTube SEO little trick for you guys yes another thing you need to do is make your videos longer before I met you I was doing two-minute videos cuz I’m like oh short to the point that’s what people loves quick in and out but what is YouTube hate short super short videos yes and then you told me you changed my strategy about five plus minute videos and it made the world of difference you don’t really need I started analyzing the data and I know you analyzed a lot of data as well but creating 20 30 minute videos versus five minute videos doesn’t really matter anything about five minutes is pretty much good to go the other strategy with YouTube is using the right keywords if you don’t use the right keywords with the tagging and the headlines and you know within the description you’re not gonna always do the best with rankings with YouTube SEO I know you’re the master at this and you’re better than me how do you find the right keywords and what tools to use I mean the biggest is really just looking within your niche and just seeing what’s working right which is what most people don’t do and within YouTube you can really spy very easily on your competitors so use this tool called vid IQ you can find it video q comm and you can literally for any search term just find all the videos that are doing well see what tags they’re using see what’s working what’s not working and the best way to know if a term is really good is if a video is ranking really high for a certain term but it doesn’t have many subscribers okay that means that like there’s a lot of room for other people to do well that means there’s room for like the channels to do well that have a lot of subscribers on it so and you got it right and using that tool it’ll help them do better but that’s pretty much it with YouTube SEO it’s actually not that competitive and here’s the cool part I learned is through you I used to think YouTube SEO is like normal SEO in which you go out there you create a video and over time it increases in rankings but with YouTube the moment of video hits whatever does really the first hour and first 24 hours they’ll usually determine that the videos gonna do really well over time so in the first 24 hours if you crush it you’re gonna continually crush it if in the first 24 hours the video was a dud no matter what you do yet you can get a bit more higher rankings and a bit more traffic but you’re not gonna crush it you need the video to do really well within the first 24 hours so whether it’s email out to your list tweet it out and share it and let everyone know about it the first 24 hours matter more than anything else right now that’s great so to dance allure question it sounds like these are gonna be separate things in the future Oh forever there’s gonna be Google organic and this contract to be organic and both should be part of the strategy from here that’s correct if you can get Google organic why not get more if you can get YouTube organic why not get more as well in other words do a bit of everything and don’t worry about oh are my YouTube videos gonna rank high on Google if they don’t it’s okay you can still rank high on YouTube and get a ton of traffic there it is alright awesome some of you guys enjoyed this definitely make sure you leave that comment we’re reading every single one yes and we’re responding if you need help leave a comment we don’t care if you’re a big business or solo entrepreneur with no money we really are here to help you we love you guys as a community whatever I can do to help you succeed makes me happy that’s my life mission so feel free to share this video with other people let them know about it if you like one of the questions that someone’s asking voted it up the more votes a comment ends up getting the more likely we I am and Adam are to answer it during our next Q&A Thursday’s

Hello Neil, thanks for your awesome videos. So i have a question. First let me give you a little bit of background. We're an ecommerce but we also do some web development and marketing for clients, the idea is to build a marketing and web development agency on the side of the ecommerce and have this agency handle everything for our ecommerce. So now the question, we're gonna start creating videos to help people in mexico get into ecommerce and online buisiness in general, and we plan on uploading them to our ecommerce youtube channel. But i also want to talk about entrepreneurship and good productivity habits in general. But i'm not sure if the entrepreneurship and productivity stuff should be on a separate channel because its more about me personally talking about my experience and building a personal brand.

So whats your take on that? is it ok to upload more personal videos to the business account or should i create my own personal brand account and upload them there?

    Hey Neil
My question is Do you hire people with no experience but who love to do digital marketing? Or people who are upfront and have good analytical thinking skills and crazy enough to ask stuff like this in a youtube comment section? If thats the case then please tell me where can I apply for the job?

Hey Neil, I like your content but there's a lot of misinformation in this video.

    1. The number of your subscribers have no affect on your ability to rank on YouTube.
    2. Videos that perform bad in the first 24 hours can do very well over time.

I have had videos on my channel that have done terrible for the first few weeks/months. Then over time, due to optimisation and opportunity, those videos then ranked highly and started bringing in views. I see it happen on my channel all the time.

I specialise in YouTube SEO and growth if you're interested at all.

    Thanks guys for another great episode. This question is related to YouTube SEO but is actually in response to the podcast Neil and a Eric Siu released today “what we Learned from spending £11k on YouTube advertising” I’m currently working through the Google Adwords certification and will be looking to assist local businesses with their google paid ads including YouTube advertising. Your insights (in the podcast) are useful in relation to having clear objectives when formulating an ad campaign. The main ‘take away’ from the podcast is that you have found YouTube advertising most effective with raising your brand profile rather than maximising views or CTR. My question is;
How would you go about demonstrating ROI with this goal in mind?
Thanks again for all your amazing work and I will be tuning in again for the next instalment! P.s. I apologise for not finding the correct place on the Marketing School App to address this question.

As always, awesome video. I wonder what you're take is on embedding videos on your website to drive more traffic to YouTube. It goes without saying that content in the article has to be primary and the video is supplemental. But my gut instinct tells me that this is a good strategy to follow. Your thoughts?

Neil I have question… And I'd be grateful if you found the time to read and answer… Would a Facebook group be better for a fitness product selling or page? I intend to help people lose weight whether they buy or not… A page upload or live hits only 5% of the crowd maximum…whereas a group it hits everyone… What do you think Neil?

Hi Neil, I have a startup a blog website as well as Facebook and YouTube for that site. I have both my videos on Facebook and YouTube but right now i promote my videos more on Facebook because i think it is easier to get views there. It is hard to do both because time and money is limited as a startup. Am i doing the right thing to focus to get more followers on Facebook first rather that getting more subscribers on YouTube?

I had no idea that you could add a transcript to a Youtube video. I then searched for how to do so, and the results are awful. One of you guys should make a video about that! Thanks for the tips, I just added my first transcript to one of my accelerated degree journey videos – we'll see what happens.

Hey Niel, awesome content (as always). Quick question! Do you think social media platforms that take more time for production and quality content will play a role in a brand that is regionally confined to a rather small area? An example would be real estate agents, do you think it is worth their time to put out the content and try to rank high on platforms like Youtube and Facebook video when their reach is so limited by the area they service?

Neil, I had the pleasure of speaking to one of the co-founders of HomeDepot. And I asked him for some management advice and this dude who's about 65 yrs old at the time looks at me and barks the following statement to me "Overpay and overwork" and I said anything else? and barked back at me "with that you have it nailed." This was in Texas in the 1990s Now I have repeated that statement to sooooo many people over the years but you are the first person that I have ever heard almost say what he said other than myself. I have employed that practice ever since…

Hi Neil, Thank you for everything. Your content is great and genuinely helpful, I was wondering if you can help me out here, I have another youtube channel and most of the videos on the channel are around 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I have uploaded some new videos (this week) which did really well in the first 24 hours and are constantly doing good. Should I delete them and re upload them, by keeping everything same , just making the length over 5 minutes? (the video is curated content)

    Thank you,

Is the advantage of transcriptions a result of the error rate of the captions software alone, or is there an advantage programmed into the algorithm just for uploading the transcription? I've taken voice lessons and speak in a way that the auto-transcriptions are quite reliable. I don't have fund at the moment to pay to have it done and that's time which could be utilized for other videos.

Just found this channel! Great stuff here! Questions – I've noticed that other smaller channels rank higher on the most popular search of "Metal Detecting" Why is this when I've used "metal detecting" in my description and tags just like the top 5 channels? Also my channel name never has represented the content of my channel. Is is a good idea to change my name? Thank you.
