How to navigate UCT Libraries’ webpage

Welcome to UCT Libraries’ How-to-Series.
This video will give you an overview of UCT Libraries’ home page, including
general information about the library, showing you how to get started with
research and where to find help. Access the homepage by going to You can navigate through the homepage by using the various tabs. Our quick links tab will give you quick access to some of the most popular
links available. If you are not on campus, you need to log in via the off campus
login using your student number and network password, to be able to access and
download almost all the resources that UCT Libraries subscribes to. Subject
guides aim to provide resources and information to students, researchers and
the academics in that particular field. Here you are able to find the contact
details for your subject librarian. Interlibrary loans will sources research
materials that are not available at UCT from other Libraries in South Africa or
beyond. All UCT staff and students may use this service. There is no cost for items obtained in South Africa. By clicking on my library card and loging in, you will be
able to view your library record as well as renew books online. Ask a librarian is
our online reference desk here you are able to submit an online request
through a request form. Hover you mouse over search and find this will take you to the different search options helping you to find information including the Library
catalog, Aleph, for books, databases that you can use to search for
journal articles, the e-journal portal that gives you an a-z of all
the electronic journal titles available the e-reference collection for dictionaries,
encyclopedias and more. Under the services tab you will find information
on the services offered by libraries, which includes information about
borrowing privileges, 24 hour study facilities and more. You can find links to video tutorials
and the referencing help will assist you with referencing using various
styles. Under libraries and collection, you will find information about the
different branch libraries and departments that makeup UCT Libraries. You will find general infomration about the libraries under the about UCT Libraries tab
the information here includes opening hours, library rules as well as a brief history of the libraries. The libraries contacts tab will provide the details of the major
units of the library. Lastly, be sure to follow us using our social media links. To learn more about the resources available in the library check out
the other videos in the series or contact any of the libararians for assistance
