The Dutch lady tour guide sounded so proud that 300 years ago, tiny Holland had colonies all over the world. Maybe at the time, that was something to be proud of, but certainly NOT TODAY. You unrightfully took another country by force and oppressed their people.

I've been to the Van Gogh Museum (and going back again this year). I'm no art expert, but his works are so moving, you can see the paint and the brush strokes and the emotion.

I lived in the Netherlands for nearly 15 years. I loved the Dutch people for many reason, and fell in love with their country. I even learned their language. I highly recommend this as a FIRST STOP for visitors who have never been to Europe, as the people are bilingual for certain, yet are likely to speak 4-5 languages. You won't be disappointed. HINT – Take a B&B and you'll learn a whole not more of the people, the culture, the history, and city.

Take a cheaper hotel just (10-15 km outside of North of Amsterdam) and rent a bike for the whole time. There are separate bike lanes everywhere and you can see the countryside with roundtrips of less than 60km. It is cheap and efficient and the Dutch way. Highlights: Zaanse Schans, Volendam/Marken/Edam, Kinderdijk Windmills.

Oh come on ole boy, Trickie Rickie… you stopped by the Red Light District for a 'Rub 'n Tug' didn't ya? I mean you we really asking hard about buying marijuana, that couldn't have been just for comparing prison time. You honestly could not be a huge prude, like you look, can ya?! Hmm… I mean don't get me wrong, I love culture, local cuisines, sights, etc… but you gotta release from time to time, am I right, Steve-O? You are in the drug 'n prostitution Capital of the world! Legally! I was initially shocked that you even explored those two districts there, we all knew about it. Maybe you're loosening up a bit in your older ages!

Again, spot on! You did your homework Rick! The Jordaan indeed is the "creme"! The fried bananas are good, in surinam they call it Bakabana (bakbanaan). But we are not proud on our Indonesian horror past. Many innocent Indonesian people were killed by the Dutch and nobody knows that, it's not in the school books!
It's called the Rawagede massacre, caused by us, the Dutch.

Rick Steves portrays this Liberal stronghold as some sort of utopia, when Amsterdam is just another hypocritical society, leading the way in Exploitation of humans disguised as "freedoms" . He misses the truth and is such a marketing dueshbag. Not only is Amsterdam a society of hypocrites, but they bring their love for Exploitation to China on a grand scale. I do not need to go into it here, figure it out yourselves.
