7 Proven Ways to Grow eCommerce Sales By 50% or More | Increase eCommerce Sales

By | August 11, 2019

– You want to grow your ecommerce site. Well you know what? The way that you think you’re gonna grow your ecommerce site isn’t
the real way to grow. Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today, I’m gonna share with you seven ways you can increase your ecommerce sales by over 50%. (soft music) The first tip I have for you is to focus on one product. Yes, you do not need to be selling millions of products
like Amazon to do well. I met some lady the
other day and I’m like, what do you sell? She’s like, oh, I make high
heels more comfortable. I’m like, wait. Why don’t people buy fancy shoes, just make sure that they’re comfortable? And she’s like, oh no,
these fashion designers don’t want to make them comfortable because they think comfortable shoes aren’t fancy and nice. I’m like, all right
well, I don’t really care but she was smart. She came up with the concept of, hey, people like Gucci
and Prada and Chanel aren’t willing to make
shoes more comfortable. Well, I’m gonna sell some insoles that make it way easier and
nicer for women to walk. She had one product and that’s it. Do you know how much she makes? Well into the seven figures per year. You don’t need a lot
of products to do well. And if you’re on Shopify,
you can use Oberlo and that’ll help make it, so you don’t have to
worry about the logistics. If you’re only doing one product, your life becomes so much easier. Sure, you could eventually
add more products, but first, focus on one product that solves a pain point. If you’re just trying to sell some product because you think it’s cool and it doesn’t solve a pain point, well, you have another thing that’s gonna end up happening, in which you’re not gonna make any sales. You won’t see a 50% increase. You’ll probably see a 50% decrease compared to what most people are seeing. So, make sure you focus on one product that solves a real problem and there’s not a ton of other creative or unique solutions out there. My second tip for you
is upsell and downsell. The reason I’m saying upsell and downsell isn’t because I’m trying to tell you to add 50 products to
your ecommerce store. It’s because it’s easier to get someone whose bought from you once to spend more money with you than it is to get new
people to buy from you. So, upsell and downsell. If you’re selling women’s shoes that are nice and comfortable, right, or you’re selling the insoles that makes women’s shoes nice and comfortable, your upsell could be a pack of three instead of just one. That’s an easy upsell. Doing simple things like that will increase your lifetime value, which will open up more possibilities. And this gets into my third tip. It’s advertise. There’s Facebook advertising
and there’s Google AdWords. They both work extremely well in ecommerce marketing. Facebook advertising is excellent when people don’t know what product or service that they’re going after. For example, if you’re
in the beauty space, you can target everyone on Facebook who’s interested in beauty and show them some cool new product that
they’re not familiar with. On the other hand, if
you’re using Google AdWords and you know people are looking up for a makeup brush, you can show ads on Google
for your makeup brush and people who are looking
for that can see it. Facebook ads and both Google ads are a great way to really
boost your ecommerce sales, and you if you’re not sure where to get started with
Facebook ads or Google ads, just leave a comment below and I’ll answer you and
I’ll give you feedback on how to run the perfect
Facebook ad campaign or a Google AdWords campaign. The fourth tip I have for you
is leverage subscriptions. Have you noticed on Amazon, they give you a discount if
you subscribe to a product? So make sure you offer
subscription options. For example, if you’re
selling makeup or lipstick, people are gonna run out of it. The question is just when? So why not give them an option where they can subscribe and
continually get new makeup? Why do you think Dollar Shave Club sold for a billion plus dollars? It’s because they did razor subscription. Everyone’s already buying razors. Why not make it easy
and just automatically deliver them, right? Subscriptions is huge. And if you’re using Shopify,
which you probably are, you can use a tool called Recharge to make your product a subscription. You don’t have to pay some fancy engineers to do this with you. You can just use a simple tool. The fifth tip I have for you is recover the abandoned shoppers. Do you know how many people are going to your shopping
cart and abandoning? In 2017, roughly 75.6% of shopping carts were abandoned. That means if you have
100 people adding shit to your shopping cart, roughly 75 of them are gonna bounce and leave. They’re not gonna come back
and they’re not gonna buy. So you need to come back, or more so, you need to make them come back and buy. How do you do that? Recovering abandonment solutions, such as collecting their emails. So when someone’s buying from you, you’re probably collecting their name and email first before you’re showing the credit card information. For all the people you collect the name and emails for that don’t
finish the purchase, you should be emailing
them and convincing them, hey, buy now. You can even do things
like exit intent offers, using tools like Hello Bar, where you show them an exit offer saying, hey, thinking about leaving? Put in your name and email and I’ll send you a 10% off coupon
or a free shipping coupon. Tip number six. Optimize your checkout process. There’s a company called Baymard, and they did a study looking at everyone’s checkout pages. Do you know how much money is recovered by optimizing these checkout pages? I know this sounds crazy. You think that someone
adds stuff to the cart that they’re gonna buy. But what they found is when companies optimize their checkout pages, they found that they made
an extra 260 billion, that’s not million, that’s
billion with a B, extra dollars. Don’t forget to optimize
your checkout process. And the way you do that is by first removing unnecessary fields. Why would you ask someone for their name and email
and address multiple times? That’s unnecessary. Keep it simple. The other way you can optimize your checkout process is
by making it two step. Psychologically, you would think, oh, it’s more convenient for everyone to just have all the fields on one page. No, it’s not. Because if they see 10,
20 fields on one page, what’s gonna happen? They’re gonna be like, this
is way too overwhelming. But if the first page just said, put in your name and email or create an account and put in your name or email and password, and then on the checkout page they only showed the remaining credit
card and shipping fields, you’re much more likely to increase your sales, roughly by 10%. All by making your checkout page two steps instead of one step. The last tip I have for you is to leverage a referral program. If someone’s buying from
your ecommerce site, they probably know other people have the same problem and need your solution. So create a referral program, and you can do this through ReferralCandy. It’s a simple tool, app, that makes it so you can have a referral program, and you can do simple things like, you get 20 bucks when you refer someone that also signs up and buys. So that way, you both save $20, or $10, or 10% off, or free shipping, or whatever it may be. You can pick the incentive that you’re giving to people who refer people and for the people who sign up through the referral program. So the key with the referral program is not to just incentivize a person who’s doing the referring, it’s also to incentivize the person who’s accepting the referral. Look at Uber. When you use Uber’s referral program, both parties, the person
making the referral and the person joining,
both get compensated. And that’s why you want to make a referral program be on both ends, or else it won’t be successful. Follow those seven tips
and you’ll do really well with your ecommerce site, and you should generate at least 50 plus percent more in sales. Now, those are a lot of tips and you’re probably wondering which one you should be doing first. Leave a comment below and just say, hey, here’s my ecommerce store. Which one of these tips
should I be using first? And I’ll respond telling you which one you should do first, second, et cetera, so that way, you’re doing the ones first that are gonna create the biggest ROI. And I can’t just tell everyone, hey, go do them in this order, because it varies for
each and every single ecommerce site out there. But if you leave a comment, I’ll make sure that I give
you a detailed response that’ll help you grow faster.

Everyone who sees our prototypes so far loves them and we have gotten several unsolicited offers to invest. Hey Neil, I am a beginner in Online Marketing and my first client is selling shoes. The specialty here is, that customers design their own shoes, basically like NIKE ID. I tried facebook ads, I retargeted anyone who watched an image video my client published earlier for more than 10 sec. Then I built lookalike audiences (1, 2 and 5%) of this custom audience (watched more than 10 sec). I paid more than 3€ for the click and no one bought. Now my client is suggesting adwords because he thinks it´ll work better when people are already searching for shoes. What do you think?

  75. DeaDia Ads Post author

    Hi Nail,

I need directions about increasing on-line sales. It's a lighting store (it's certainly a wide assortment), the site is designed very easily, orders on the site are also created in a very simple way. We advertise through the AdWords Campaign, and monthly visits are around 9,000 but the orders do not happen. I'm currently questioning what is not good or not working because the search is very big (we do business in a small country), monthly visits are satisfactory, prices are competitive, the ordering process is simple, and we have the delivery of products to the address, we are always on the first page of the search. .. I'm thinking about buying more commercial woocomers theme, maybe that's the problem.

I really need advice or guidance, or at least to know what I'm not doing right …

Thanks for all the videos and tips, best regards!

my e- comets will be 1 month old on 24th, and no one sell so far. My first mistake: I have two kind of products: unique dresses (one unit per style in size 4) – they all hand made by me.
2nd kind of product is bridal belts – handmade imported. Not so active in ig and fb. Posting but I don’t have many products to post every day. Just 8 unique dresses in very low price, and belt sashes I want to start selling and making money from.
Till now I had few ads in Instagram and fb – $30 for 6 days. That brought me 200 more likes and 3-4 followers.
Please, let me know how to improve that.
Making business cards focusing on the belts that I have, or keep advertising my dresses?
Thank you in advance for your help!
