4 Proven Local SEO Tips to Rank High in “Near Me” Search

By | August 10, 2019

hey everyone it’s neil patel here for another Q&A Thursday video I’m here with Adam from viewership hello everyone and this week’s question is we have this one from Carson and his question for you is how does one go about ranking high SEO for search terms including near me with Geographic relevance for this example dog trainers near me I’m assuming he’s a dog trainer yeah so near me means anytime you do a search like plumbers near me dog trainers near me whatever it may be like gardener near me right there including that term near me in the Google search so what he’s asking is how can I rank my business when people are typing in whatever term plus near me so the first thing you need to do whatever you want to rank for google it type in that plus near me and you’ll see all the localized sites that Google is pulling from for those near me listings make sure you’re listed there by getting listed there it helps tremendously because if they’re pulling from those sites and you’re there there’s a higher chance that you’re gonna get listed you live in Boston right so let’s use the example of Boston the next if we have is you want to make sure you’re listing the local landmarks town lines as well as old school like driving directions to wherever that you’re servicing so on your website in Boston there’s probably a lot of suburbs in Boston correct yeah and what are some of them Charlestown Cambridge so on your website you want to list all the little subsections of Boston or whatever city you’re servicing all the landmarks all the town lines because they could be all close to each other and you even want to go as far as putting the localized old-school directions from how people get to get to wherever they are to you by doing that you’re gonna be much better off in getting more traffic you also want to make sure you have a localized number everyone’s like oh you want a 800 number or 888 number but no you want to localize numbers so people know that you’re there you’re in person and you’re not one of those you know sites that has near me listings for every single city in the United States and they’re not really near there you know the a hundred place first looks like ours that’s like the whole thing I was looking for a flower shop near medium bossed I lived downtown I ended up going like way outside of town to find a place that was like a legit local place not an 800 flowers or anything like that so good advice yeah she just called Amex Amex deals with all that for you they’re really official that’s really corporate there’s so much for that no but and this will find the local flower shop for you oh nice yeah yeah you should try that out good little tip so in addition to that when people go look for services near them whether it’s plumbing dog sitting dog walking they also check out your overall company or you and how you’re doing overall so they may go to Yelp in those national services to type in your name to see how many reviews you have and if your legitimate so make sure you ask people who have a good experience to leave a review on whatever site whether it’s Google or whether of it’s you know on Yelp or whatever it may be because it helps create legitimacy because even if you’re not ranking at the top by having more reviews people be like oh wow you got five or six hundred reviews we’re more likely list you when you do a search google has a local pack and let’s say they pick three listings and the number one spot has ten reviews and number two spot has seven reviews and you’re the third spot if you get a ton of reviews and now you have 50 or 100 reviews what you’ll find is a lot of people will click on the listing with more reviews and they click on you more than the other two eventually will will push the other two down and push you above them so follow those tips you’ll get way more traffic for people looking for your business or your service near you definitely and I should say that the very fact that you’re watching this is a local business sets you so far apart than all the other local businesses so just know like you’re already killing it just by like following a few of these tips whether you’re watching this or you’re doing something that’s huge because when I talk to most localized businesses they’re like yeah we get our business from word of mouth but we hand out flyers to community businesses around us and I’m like alright there’s an internet there’s phone like yes you should still do those offline tactics we should also use digital tactics as well so thank you guys for watching if you have a comment or a question leave it below I’ll be there to answer and we may choose your question for next week’s Q&A Thursday video and also if you have a local business just want to comment below tell this is an awesome community of people who are like really trying to get it all together so tell us a little bit about the businesses one yeah love to help you out as well thank you for watching make sure you subscribe share tell your friends about us thank you very much

    Hey Neil,
My question is right now there are many digital marketing company who are just into lead generation. They actually do not provide any services. When some one goes to their websites as its on higher rank and better visibility they just verify buyer and sell their numbers to business owner. Do you feel enrollment to such portal or website can be beneficiary to business? In Mumbai if you will search "hair transplantation in Mumbai" probably 70% on organic rank are just third party and not actual service provider.

Hi Neil! As ever, always going above and beyond. I honestly think you'll become a Warren Buffett of Marketing (long term).

What are your thoughts about Google AMP and Facebook Instant Articles? As a financial blogger, do you think we could find success on it over the long term? If not, what should we do? How about Pillar Pages, do you think it's wise to put Pillar Pages on Google AMP and Facebook Instant Articles?

Hope you could bring this up on your next vid!

    More power, Neil!

    Got quick question for you.
We ship worldwide… But mostly in North America right now.. do we stay with the 800 or 888 number or in our biggest states, do we grab local numbers that forward to a main number? Ex: California, Colorado,Oregon

We have an office but our technicians live all over Northern California and only service near their home. I don't have a physical location for all of our service areas, yet we want to look and feel local for every customer we service – after all our technicians ARE local. We have gotten local phone number in each area code. Is it worth getting a small office in each market to have the physical address? Do we use (and hide) the technicians home address?

    Neil,

    Great tips!

Always interesting to see how you explain these things and make them seem simple. I am curious as to how you would explain local SEO to a company that has multiple locations in the same city and those that have multiple locations in multiple cities. How the Local SEO approach changes from a single location to a multiple. I am bringing this up because someone sent me your video and said they want all their locations and directions for each location on a single page so they can show up.

    Hello,

if I want to rank for a keyword with city, let's say for example: "mobile repair in city A", then I make other landingpage and optimize for the keyword "mobile repair in city B" and then agian other landingpage and optimize for the keyword "mobile repair in city C" and so on. is that good or it will harm the general keyword "mobile repair"

    Thanks

Hey Neil, I'm the digital marketer for an architecture firm in Utah. We do national work however. How would I try to rank our website for "near me" searches in other states that we want to build clientele in even though we don't have an office there? Architecture is kind of a unique B2B service, so learning SEO and best practices has been a challenge.

You do a great job Neil. Thank you! I'm new to SEO. Helping my friends with their business. Set up GMB, doing minimal Google Ads, and using Analytics. I used Keyword Planner to come up with almost 40 of the highest volume search terms I could find relevant to their business. Their website is fairly small. Is it OK to simply incorporate most or all of these terms in one place, such as 'here are some of the services we offer…', or should they all be dispersed throughout the entire website. Some of the terms are not exactly 'copy friendly.' Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks again!

Hi Neil, thanks for the video. I have been doing seo for my client's (Clinic) website & all are local keywords with low search volume. Doing competitor analysis and building quality links on a daily basis, one thing to say I just revamped the SEO content for the website but I don't know where am lagging and why my keywords aren't ranking in the first page, but ranks in second and third page.

I am standing at a crossroads now.

Hope your Q&A Thursday will help me.
